Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut. If you're a fan of Donnie Darko, you have to see the director's cut. Much improved over the original, and lots of stuff for the film geeks. If you've never seen Donnie Darko by now, don't rush out to get it, it's possible you won't get it. It's one of those movies that comes along about every two years that people claim revolutionize film. Well, it didn't, but it a very good scifi-drama-horror-tragedy-comedy-romance-thriller. A little hard to put your finger on. It's interesting to note that writer/director Richard Kelly took the next four years off after this film.
He's resurfaced this year to write Domino, a bastardization of Domino Harvey's life story for Tony Scott, and write and direct Southland Tales, a musical comedy staring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Janeane Garofalo....(can't wait for that one). Hardly the work of a revolutionary, but if you get the music of Tears For Fears and Echo and the Bunnymen, you'll get Donnie Darko. You have been warned. |
