After a wait of four years I finally was able to see the next installment of Meet The Parents. Many of the jokes and some of the language is obviously meant for the older moviegoers hence my lowered family appeal rating but anyone with children that they feel can 'handle' these types of humor may not have any problems with the humor contained within.
This movie is at least as humorous as the original and if you enjoyed that one, you should definitely watch Meet The Fockers if you haven't yet. The return of the original actors/characters (including a short stint by Owen Wilson as Pam's ex-fiancé) is boosted further by the addition of Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand to the cast as Greg's parents.
I feel that they were able to avoid the proverbial sequel trap by the addition of two actors (or an actor and actress if you prefer) that could do an exceptional job of playing The Fockers to help take the humor in a slightly different direction than the first. But the Byrnes' reactions are appropriate as far as how they reacted in the first movie that it doesn't hurt continuity.
But here's what it boils down to: I had a great time watching it. I was able to forget everything from the "outside world" and just enjoy a great movie. I would watch it again immediately following having just watched it. And judging by the conversations of other moviegoers as we left the theater, everyone else loved it just as much. And these, my friends, make a movie a great movie.
