The story behind the scenes is more exciting than the story itself. Cameron was originally hired as the special effects director for this film, but took over the lead position when the original director left. The producers didn't like what he was doing and canned him, but he ended up finishing the film the way he wanted to by sneaking into the hotel where the film was being kept and editing it to his liking while the film's producers were away at Cannes.

What an action packed start to an action packed career. Cameron has defended the film by saying that it’s the finest flying piranha movie ever.
