Lynch's career came out running with this one. Great portrayal of the story of the Elephant Man and the doctor who tries to save him from a life of circus freak shows. Very powerful, very touching, and ultimately, very tragic.
Mel Brooks executively produced this film and chose Lynch as it’s director after seeing Eraserhead. Brooks left his name out of the credits thinking that his comic stereotype would give a potential audience the wrong idea about the film.
