PopcornMonsters.com was founded by Ken Cochrane in the fall of 2001 in his
College Dorm room at the University of Maine.
Ken started Popcorn Monsters after being frustrated
by Movie Critics that never seemed to agree with him, when it came to
deciding which movies were good to see and which ones weren't.
He created Popcorn Monsters in the hopes that one day he would have a
place where movie lovers like him could go and talk, and find out about movies
in a place where no critics existed.
Over the years Popcorn Monsters has grown and become more popular. It has
also changed its looks over the years, but it is still the same old place, run by
the same people that started it. We are not a big corporation by any means, the
site is primarily run by two people, with the help of some volunteers. Any money
that is made from the site from advertising helps us cover the costs of running the
site (Server costs, Bandwidth, etc). We barely break even at the end of the day.
We aren't doing this for the money, but for the love of the movies. I know that
sounds kind of cheesy but it is pretty much true. Don't get me wrong if the site
made a lot of money, I wouldn't be complaining, but that isn't the point.
If you look at where most people get their movie information you will
probably find that 90% of the people end up at 3 or 4 sites. I won't name the sites
but I am sure you know what they are. Those big 3 or 4 sites are owned by large companies
and they sometimes forget about the little people who use their site. To them money
comes before visitors, and to us, it is the other way around, our Visitors come before
money. That is why we will never display pop-up, pop-under or any other kind of annoying advertising
on this site. We put our visitors experience first.

Do you have any goals for PopcornMonsters.com
When PopcornMonsters.com was first started, I wanted to get at least 1000 people in a month. Once I
got that goal, I decided to go for 10,000. A few months later I got that goal, and then I went even
higher, I decided to go for 25,000. The following month I got that. I then set my site at 100,000. A
few months later I got that.. Now I am striving for the big time. 1,000,000 unique visitors in one month.
Sites that get 1,000,000 unique visitors in one month are very rare and if we can get PopcornMonsters.com
on that list, I can say we have made it.
Oh yeah, and to make the site the best site that it can be :)
What do I do with the points?
Monster Points are kind of like currency on the PopcornMonsters.com, if you do something good
for the site, you will get rewarded with Monster Points. You can take those Monster Points and
Buy stuff from the Prize Catalog, or you can use them to enter Contests. There are two levels
of Points: Monster Points, and Prize Points. Prize Points can be used to buy stuff, and when you
buy something your prize points will go down. Your Monster Points will never go down, they show the
number of points that you have collected since joing PopcornMonsters.com. The more Monster Points
you collect the higher you move in the food chain. The higher you move in the food chain the more
priviledges you will have on the site.
