I don't go to the movies often anymore. I saw this earlier this evening in Los Angeles and now wish that I could get my two hours back. Reading the other three reviews posted, I'm shocked that Scarface and Heat were even mentioned in the same breath as this nightmare.
From the mind that brought you Hollow Man, Timecop 2 and 2 Fast 2 Furious, you may wonder aloud while watching this if the writer didn't take elements from all three of these equally bad screenplays to make up the bulk of this stinker.
88 Minutes is probably the worst movie of the last few years from the story, which is trying hard to pass itself off as a MacGuffin, to the acting, the resolution and the absurd and constantly changing plot twists. Nothing in this movie is even remotely interesting, nor original. Matter of fact, you may think that you've seen this movie before as it resembles several other bad films that have been thrust upon us as of late. War, The Recruit and The Bucket List.
I'm sure that in a few months this will not only be out on DVD, but in the five dollar bargain bins with ninety-nine cent mark down stickers on them because no one in their right mind will want to add this very badly written piece of garbage into their collection.
Maybe Pacino needed the money? Maybe he just doesn't care anymore about the end result as he has enough good films to his name to let a few years of flops roll on by.
The music was equally abysmal, was that Backstreet Boys I heard? I was equally disappointed with the over the top embedded advertising for Apple. I guess they have to find new ways to market products to everyone as no one watches commercials anymore.
The only high point in this film was seeing William Forsythe again. A good B Actor who doesn't take himself too serious and isn't in enough films.
I'd watch this on youtube ... but only if I was forced to at gunpoint. And don't be surprised if that's the plot of Al Pacino's next major movie.
