I didn't have high hopes for this film before seeing it, because, let's face it, it is a zombie/action movie, not high shakespearean drama.
And yet, knowing this before watching it, I still felt bitterly disapointed. The setting is all right. A post apocalyptic New York beautifully made with CGI and special effects, and Will Smith acted very well as the lone military scientist trying to find a cure for the virus that has laid the world waste.
But that is all. The rest is absolute rubbish. The zombies are ridiculous to say the least, mostly because of one character: their leader. The very notion that they have a leader is silly and stupid. He not only seems far more intelligent than his cohorts, but is also physically a lot more threatening. And the biggest flaw of them all: he acts human. He is evil. The others are mere wild animals, but not him. He is sly and with evil intent. Then there is the fact, that Will Smith drives a bright red Mustang when he goes hunting. That is probably the last car you'd want to go hunting in. Who's there to impress with your flashy car? Honestly. Also the ending is far too stereotypical and boring.
In a word, it's bad. Not recommendable at all. |
