"84 Charing Cross Road" is a treasure. A great script based on a true story provides a worthy vehicle for a world-class cast headed by Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins, who play a New York booklover and a British antique book dealer, respectively. The story follows the long distance relationship between the two that spans one ocean and three decades, as Bancroft and Hopkins become much more than buyer and seller. Made in the mid-1980s, the film has lost none of its poignancy or ability to delight. I highly recommend this film. |
