I was caught up in this fantasy from the very start until the very end. So many current movies, even the fantasies, have such predictable plots that you can guess what's coming next from miles away. Not this movie. From the very start, the plot turns in ways you don't see coming and you find yourself simply following along.
Claire Danes was radiant as the "fallen star" whose tell-tale shine gives away whatever emotion is in her heart. Michelle Pfeiffer goes through an amazing transformation from ancient hag to beauty and eventually back to hag again. Robert DeNiro is a lot of fun as the pirate with the "big secret," and it was pretty clear while watching that he had a big time hamming it up in his role, too.
My only disappointment is the initial meeting of Tristan & Yvaine...she whines a great deal about her predicament. Thankfully that didn't last too long.
A little scary for the smaller children, though. Parents should use discretion.
