Not since The Champ, a tearjerker starring little Rick "The Kid" Schroeder, have I seen such a heartfelt piece about boxing lore. In Rocky IV, the mighty Rockster takes on villain Ivan "King" Drago, old Russia's version of Mr. T. At stake is the love and affection of Adrian, Rocky's unfulfilled wife who, during the mid-1980s, was seeking contentment elsewhere. Highlights of this movie include no-good sexist Paulie reprogramming his robot to have sexy female characteristics; the Rockster's feeble son finally coming of age; Apollo Creed dealing with thinning hair; and the castration scene at the end (see the cover of the DVD for Rocky's expression during this horrid ordeal. Hey, what did you expect from a Mel Gibson director's cut of the revamped movie?)
On a personal note, like Rocky Balboa, Da Peace Dogg has come out of retirement to begin doing Amazon reviews again. Bear with me, as it may take me a while to get into the swing of things again. I want to thank my fans for urging me not to quit, just as Adrian urged Rocky to forge ahead in one of the final scenes of Rocky II, one of the most side-splitting movies I've ever seen that stars Ethan Hawke as Rocky's up-and-coming protege.
Thanks again for the support!!!!! |
